A paper, authored by Prof. James Martin in collaboration with Berkley Hillis and Feier Hou, was published online by ACS on June 25, 2020.
DOI: 10.1021/acs.jpcc.0c03003.
The manuscript “Transition Zone Theory Compared to Standard Models: Reexamining the Theory of Crystal Growth from Melts” will be the cover feature to be published in the Aug. 27, 2020 issue of the Journal of Physical Chemistry C.
Prof. Martin elaborates: “This manuscript both provides a critique of classic theories, which notably are built on non-physical/non-thermodynamic assumptions, and provides a demonstration of our recently developed Transition State Theory, which provides the condensed matter analog of Eyring’s classic transition state theory. Our TZT for crystallization, for the first time, allows condensed matter chemists to evaluate the impact of functional groups and bonding on the the reaction mechanism of crystallization.”
