  • CH 727 – Biological Mass Spectrometry (Contact Dr. David Muddiman)
  • CH 755 – Organic Reaction Mechanisms (Contact Dr. Vincent Lindsay)
  • CH 795-004 – Chemistry of Life Processes (contact Dr. Jun Ohata)
  • CH 795-008 – Solid State Chemistry (Contact Dr. Xiaotong Li)

What Chemistry advanced labs will be offered?

  • CH 442 – Synthesis I (prereq: CH 227; coreq: CH 401)
  • CH 452 – Measurements I (prereq: CH 315, CH 316, CH 431; coreq: CH 415, CH 433)

What is an advised elective?

Advised electives are courses that are 200 level and above, taken for a grade (exceptions to this include: BIO 181, BIO 183, FL* 1** courses that are not in your language of proficiency). If you would like a course to count as an advised elective, please reach out to your advisor to request this change on your degree audit.

Enrolling in BCH 451?

Reminder: Chemistry majors do not need BIO 183 as a prereq for BCH 451.  If you do not have credit for BIO 183, please contact Ms. Madi Moser (mbmoser@ncsu.edu) to assist with enrollment in BCH 451.

How do I get my hold released?

Speak with your academic advisor about getting your hold released.  Academic advisors can only release term advisement holds, please direct questions related to other holds to the appropriate contacts listed in your Student Center.

How do I apply for graduation?

Information on graduation can be found here.

What if I am considering a change in major?

If you know which academic department you wish to move in to, please reach out to their academic advisors to plan coursework for the upcoming semester.  After meeting with them, reach out to your academic advisor in CH to have your Term Advisement Hold released.  If you are unsure of which major to apply to, the University’s Academic Advising Programs and Services provides walk-in advising to degree-seeking students exploring majors.

Tutoring Resources

  • The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides academic assistance for many 100- and 200- level math, chemistry, and physics courses, as well as writing and speaking support for students.  The ASC also manages the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program which targets historically difficult courses and helps students integrate what to learn with how to learn as they interact with their classmates.
  • The Dennis Wertz Tutorial Center for Chemistry, located in 152 Fox Labs, is a great resource for undergraduate students looking to get assistance in their general or organic chemistry courses. The walk-in center is staffed by peer tutors who can help students understand principles or figure out difficult problems.
  • The department also maintains a list of students who are available to hire for private tutoring.
