Obtin Alkhamis, Xiao Group, was awarded the Kenneth W. and Jane A. Hanck Chemistry Graduate Student Endowment Award for Fall ‘22.

Obtin Alkhamis, Xiao Group, won the Excellence in Innovation Award – Senior at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Adara Bacon, Xiao Group, won the Caitlin, Erin, and Jocelyn Muddiman Outstanding and Creative Research Award at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Emily Brown, Castellano Group, is the first author of a recent publication in ACS Central Science highlighted in an editorial titled “para-Hydrogen-Induced Polarization Enabled by Visible Light Activation.” 

Emily Brown, Castellano Group, Mustapha Abdulmojeed, Theis Group, and Alejandro Valdes-Pena, Pierce Group, were selected as 2022 Kenan Fellowship awardees.

Tzu-Yu (Jill) Chen, Chang Group, won the Jeremy Knowles Award at the Gordon Research Conference on Enzymes, Coenzymes, and Metabolic Pathways.

Carolynn Davern and Maxwell Bowles, Proulx Group, received travel awards to attend the American Peptide Symposium 2022.

Carolynn Davern and Hailey Young, Proulx Group, won poster prizes at the American Peptide Symposium 2022 and at Boulder Peptide Symposium 2022.

Chathuri de Alwis, Sombers Group, Kevan Knizner, Muddiman Group, and Jamie Breunig, Pierce Group, won the Chemistry Graduate Student Association Award for Excellence in Science Communication at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Seiya Ishizawa, Ohata Group, won a graduate fellowship from Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) starting in Fall 2023.

Michael Kirsch, Yingling Group, won the Excellence in Innovation Award – Junior at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Kevan Knizner, Muddiman Group, received the 2022 Graduate Student Research Award at the Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exposition.

Kevan Knizner, Muddiman Group, Catherine Odhiambo, Williams Group, and Angela Shipman, Martin Group, won the Outstanding Senior Graduate Research Poster Award at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Sarah Kromer, Castellano Group, Tana Palomino, Muddiman Group, and Ashton Stowe, Ohata Group, won the Outstanding Junior Graduate Research Poster Award at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Keilian MacCulloch, Theis Group, was awarded the Glaxo Fellowship.

Scott McGuigan, Maggard Group, won the Award for Exceptional Scholarship in Chemical Research at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Nicholas Nunn, Smirnov Group, was awarded a Goodnight Doctoral Fellowship.

M. Alejandro Valdes Pena, Pierce Group, won the Cambrex Award for Excellence in Molecular Research at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Ivan Sprague, Lindsay Group, was recognized with the Burroughs Wellcome Fellowship.

Sydney Welch, Williams Group, won the Comparative Medicine Institute Award for Chemistry at the Interface of Medicine at the Department of Chemistry 24th Annual Poster Session Awards.

Hailey Young, Proulx Group, won the third place in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences category at the 15th annual Graduate Student Research Symposium

Undergraduate Students

Sydney Andersen won the 1st place prize in the Microscopy and Video/Interactive categories of the Envisioning Research Contest.

Ben Cipriano received the inaugural Boudreau Summer Research Award.

Brandon Colella received the 2023 Boudreau Summer Research Award.

Olivia Dioli, Muddiman Group, received the 2022 Undergraduate Student Research Award at the Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exposition.

Lizzie Dunsmore (‘22) was recognized by DASA for her involvement in leadership in DASA programs. 

Beth Furry, Ben Masters, Charlotte Ridgway, and Linda Ung were graduating Chemistry Honors Students in 2022.

Elizabeth Gross and Eve Hall received travel awards from OUR.

Tony Kelly has been selected as a Beckman Scholar.

Ben Masters received a Summer Research Fellowship from the University of Chicago.

Ben Masters received a travel award for the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium at Rice University.

Hrishikesh Ram was selected for the Performing Artist Award in music for his outstanding work in piano performance.

Kiran Soma has been selected for the 2022-23 NC State Creative Artist Award in theatre.

Linda Ung (was accepted into the Merck Future Talent Internship Program.
