Meet our New Faculty: Dr. Brian Space
We are very happy to announce that Dr. Brian Space will be joining our team as Professor effective January 2021.
- Brian Space received his B.A. and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Boston University. Following his doctoral training, Dr. Space worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate under National Science Foundation (NSF) funding in Princeton University’s Department of Chemistry. He then accepted positions at Duquesne University (1995-2000) and the University of South Florida’s Chemistry Department (2000-2020) respectively. In January 2021 Dr. Space became a Professor in the North Carolina State Department of Chemistry.
- The Space Research Group is an innovator in developing and applying models of porous materials and interfacial systems with an emphasis on theoretical modeling of Metal Organic Materials. They are actively engaged in collaborative work with leading materials synthesis and characterization groups internationally. Another group focus on improving simulations has led to the development of modern PHAST force fields for atomistic modeling of materials.
- Dr. Space has received numerous awards and millions of dollars in grant funding from: NSF including a Career Award, National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), the American Chemical Society, the U.S. Department of Energy, NASA, and others. A detailed description of their work and an updated list of their publications is available on the Space Research Group website.
Join us in welcoming Dr. Brian Space to our Department!
