Celebrating Michael Bereman
The Department of Chemistry shares their deepest condolences with the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Michael Bereman. He will always be remembered in our hearts as the ultimate warrior who decided to fight ALS back with passion.
Michael Seth Bereman, age 39, passed away on March 17, 2021 after a nearly six-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was a beloved friend, colleague and mentor who will be missed deeply.
Michael was an Associate faculty with the Department of Chemistry and was recently promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife Meagan, children – Millie and Mason, parents and brother.
More on his professional career and battle with ALS was highlighted in an article issued by the College of Science in 2017.

ALS Virtual Walk and Celebration of Life
When originally thinking about this gathering, I figured we would host it at the park near our house, but the more that I thought about it, NC State seemed so natural…a perfect way to be able to include colleagues, friends, family and students. It is such an important part of our life and feels like “home’ for many reasons. … I was hoping that you could share with your departments and colleagues and students who you think may like to be involved in this morning…
When: June 26, 2021 9AM-12 PM. A big tent will be reserved to help keep everyone cooler and to have a shaded place we can all gather to share words about Michael and have snacks/drinks before and after the walk.
Where: The Oval on Centennial Campus. Parking in Oval West.
Thank you again for everything, and am very much looking forward to giving you vaccinated hugs on the 26th. Sending all our love and appreciation always.
