Inorganic Chemistry Seminar Series: Courtney Roberts – University of Minnesota
November 9, 2023 | 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
About the Speaker:
Bio:
Dr. Courtney Roberts is currently an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota.
Courtney grew up in Los Angeles, CA and attended Pepperdine University where she worked with former Gopher Prof. Joe Fritsch on developing catalysts for ring opening polymerization of lactide. After graduating with her BS in chemistry, she moved to Chapel Hill, NC for her PhD and became the founding member of the Meek lab. Her PhD thesis was on developing carbodicarbene catalysts for enantioselective diene hydrofunctionalization reactions.
After obtaining her Ph.D. in 2016, Courtney moved to the University of Michigan to work as a postdoc in Prof. Melanie Sanford’s lab and developed a deeper love of organometallic chemistry after working with one of the best!
Courtney moved to the Twin Cities in the summer of 2019 and started as an assistant professor of chemistry.
In her free time, Courtney enjoys cheering for North Carolina basketball, meeting new people, being spontaneous, and learning new things.
Research:
The Roberts group uses inorganic and organometallic chemistry and catalysis to solve fundamental problems in organic chemistry related to energy and pharmaceuticals.
