Jon Palmer awarded The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation
We are excited to announce that Jon Palmer has been awarded the Goldwater Scholarship! The Goldwater is one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics in the United States. It identifies and supports exceptional sophomores and juniors who show promise of becoming this Nation’s next generation of research leaders in these fields! Last year, Goldwater received 1300 applications and awarded 250 scholarships.
Jon is a junior from Matthews, NC and is pursuing a BS in Chemistry. Recently, Jon’s research in the lab of Goodnight Innovation Distinguished Chair Felix Castellano, contributed to a publication in the Journal of Physical Chemistry B.
Jon aims to pursue a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and conduct research in solar energy conversion. He is interested in becoming a teacher-scholar and is excited to mentor chemistry students and make ground-breaking discoveries relevant to real-world problems.
Jon displays an incredible dedication to a career in research and teaching, deep intellectual inquiry, and proven contributions in chemistry. Congratulations to our 2020 Goldwater scholar!
