Maria Oliver-Hoyo, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Professor of Chemistry

Maria Oliver-Hoyo is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Chemistry in the College of Sciences at NC State University. She is the recipient of the Board of Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from NC State (2016), the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award (2012), the College of Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award (2008) with subsequent induction in the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at NC State University, and the Leroy and Elva Martin Award for Teaching Excellence (2001). After receiving her Ph.D. from Drexel University in 1999, she started her tenure career at NC State. Maria was awarded an NSF CAREER Award for “Development and Evaluation of Active, Cooperative, Disability-Sensitive Pedagogies for Chemistry” to promote her research interests in these areas and she currently directs a unique graduate program in CER that targets the design, development, and assessment of resources for chemistry instruction. Her contributions to CER have included multiple leadership positions in the Division of Chemical Education of the American Chemical Society including being Chair of the 2013 Gordon Research Conference: Chemical Education Research and Practice. Most recently, Maria was a Fulbright Scholar in Uruguay conducting professional development in active methodologies for chemistry instructors.
